Entity SEO
Wikidata, Wikipedia and sameAs links make you a resolvable node in the Knowledge Graph the models reuse.
Why it mattersA disambiguated, known entity is far easier for a model to cite with confidence.
Definition & Foundation
What it is, in plain words
Entity SEO is the work of becoming a resolvable node in the Knowledge Graph: a "thing" the model recognizes, not just a domain it has seen. When an engine can map your brand to a disambiguated entity (with a Wikidata item, a knowledge panel, and consistent sameAs links to your profiles), it can cite you with confidence, because it knows exactly which "Acme" you are and what you do. An unresolved brand is an orphan: mentioned, maybe, but hard to attribute and easy to confuse with a namesake.
This is the foundation of the entire authority pillar, because every other signal (mentions, reviews, PR) only compounds if the model can attach it to one clear entity. It is also unusually durable: entity recognition, once earned, persists across model updates and keeps paying off while passages come and go. Pages that resolve 15 or more recognized entities are about 4.8× more likely to be selected, a signal you win by being a clean, consistent, well-linked entity, and by writing about other entities the graph already knows. If you searched "google entity seo" or "entity geo", this is the same discipline aimed at AI answers: build a clean ai entity the Knowledge Graph resolves, and generative engines inherit that recognition.
Four Ideas Behind a Resolvable Entity
From "a website" to "a thing the model knows"
The Knowledge Graph
A structured graph of entities (people, companies, products, concepts) and their relationships that engines reuse to understand the world. Your goal is to be a node on it (recognized, typed, and connected) rather than an unattached URL.
Disambiguation
Many brands share names with other companies, words, or people. Disambiguation is giving the model enough unambiguous signal (category, location, identifiers, relationships) to know precisely which entity you are, so it doesn't merge or confuse you with a namesake.
sameAs & identifiers
Linking your identity across authoritative sources (Wikidata, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, official socials) via sameAs in your Organization schema. Each link is corroboration that the same entity exists consistently across the web.
Entity consistency
Your name, category, founding facts, and one-line description should read the same on your site, your schema, and every off-site profile. Contradictions fracture the entity; consistency fuses the signals into one confident, citable node.
Myths vs Reality
Common misreadings, corrected
sameAs links, and Organization schema are available to any business today, regardless of size. Entity recognition isn't about fame; it's about being unambiguous and consistent. Small, clearly-defined entities routinely out-cite larger, muddled ones.Putting It to Work
Make yourself unambiguous and connected
The work is turning your brand into a node the graph recognizes: create the identifiers, link them, and enforce one consistent description everywhere the entity appears.
The resolvable-entity playbook
Create the entity's anchor records
Publish a sourced Wikidata item (category, founding date, official site, identifiers) and complete your Google Business / knowledge-panel-eligible profiles. These are the records the Knowledge Graph reads to know you exist and what type of thing you are.
Link identity with sameAs
Add Organization schema with sameAs pointing to Wikidata, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, and your official socials. This weaves the scattered profiles into one entity the model can resolve; see Structured Data.
Disambiguate deliberately
If you share a name with anything, add signal that separates you: consistent category language, location, industry, and relationships to known entities. Make it impossible for the model to merge you with a namesake.
Enforce one description everywhere
Write a canonical name, category, and one-line description, and reconcile every profile, bio, and schema block to match it exactly. Hunt down and fix contradictions; a different founding year or category on one profile fractures the entity.
Reference known entities in your content
Mention and correctly link the recognized entities in your space (standards, tools, notable people, related concepts). Being connected to nodes the graph already trusts strengthens your own recognition and feeds the "15+ entities" selection signal.

What it moves, and how fast
Durable, foundational leverage: a resolvable entity is what lets a model attach every other signal (mentions, reviews, PR) to one confident node, and it persists across model updates.
Entity understanding drives knowledge panels, brand SERP features, and Google's own entity-based ranking: strong classic-SEO overlap.
