Stage 6 · Measure & Attribute

A fixed prompt set, scheduled runs, per-engine share of voice, and an AI-referral view in analytics: one dashboard, no vibes.

Why it mattersThe stage that keeps GEO funded; visibility wins mean nothing if finance cannot see them.

01

Definition & Foundation

The stage that keeps GEO funded

Stage 6 replaces vibes with a dashboard. It's built on four things: a fixed prompt set, scheduled runs, per-engine share of voice, and an AI-referral view in analytics: one canonical dashboard the whole team trusts. This is the stage that keeps GEO funded: visibility wins mean nothing if finance can't see them, and "we think we're getting cited more" loses every budget conversation to a trendline that leadership can read. Measurement is also the loop's re-entry point; after cycle one, this is where the next quarter's work is chosen.

The discipline is in the details. Freeze the prompt set (50–200 prompts spanning the funnel) and version any change, so a shifting question set never masquerades as a trend. Automate the runs weekly, same conditions, and store the raw answers, not just scores, so you can diagnose why a citation moved. Compute SoV per engine (citations weighted over mentions, ranked against named competitors), because engines diverge and one blended number hides the truth. And stitch the business view: an AI-referral segment, branded-search lift, and assisted conversions, annotated with citation wins. This node carries no impact score (the leverage is attributed to Measurement), but operationally it's the stage that makes every other stage accountable.

Four Things to Know About Measurement

One dashboard the whole team trusts

honest trends

A frozen, versioned prompt set

50–200 prompts spanning the funnel, frozen so trends are comparable, and every change versioned. A prompt set that quietly shifts turns a measurement artifact into a story you can't trust; versioning keeps the trendline honest.

diagnose, don't just score

Scheduled runs, raw answers stored

Run weekly under identical conditions and store the full answers, not just scores. The raw text is what lets you diagnose why a citation moved (a fresher rival, a stale page), which a bare number never reveals.

engines diverge

Share of voice, per engine

Compute SoV per engine: citations weighted over mentions, ranked against named competitors. With little citation overlap between engines, one blended metric hides where you're actually winning and losing.

connect citations to revenue

The business view

Stitch an AI-referral segment, branded-search lift, and assisted conversions (annotated with citation wins) via Attribution. This is what turns "we're cited more" into a case finance funds.

03

Myths vs Reality

Common misreadings, corrected

Myth"We check the AI answers now and then; that's our measurement."
RealitySpot checks aren't measurement; they're anecdotes, and they can't defend a budget. The stage requires a frozen, versioned prompt set run on a schedule with raw answers stored; the only way to produce a trendline honest and durable enough for leadership to trust and fund.
Myth"One overall AI-visibility score is enough to track."
RealityA single blended number hides the truth because engines diverge sharply; you can climb in one and crater in another and see a flat average. SoV has to be computed per engine, ranked against named competitors, or you'll miss exactly where the work is winning and where it's failing.
04

Putting It to Work

Freeze, automate, split by engine, connect to revenue

Build the canonical dashboard once and run it weekly. The rigor (frozen prompts, raw storage, per-engine SoV, a business view) is what makes it fundable and makes it a trustworthy re-entry point for the loop.

The measurement playbook

1

Freeze the prompt set

Fix 50–200 prompts spanning the funnel and version any change, so trends stay honest. A frozen set is the baseline every later number is compared against, the equivalent of not moving the goalposts mid-quarter.

2

Automate the runs

Run every engine weekly under identical conditions, and store the raw answers, not just the scores. The stored text is what lets you diagnose why a citation changed when Stage 7 investigates.

3

Compute SoV per engine

Calculate share of voice per engine (citations weighted over mentions) and rank against named competitors. Never blend engines into one score; the divergence is the signal.

4

Stitch the business view

Combine an AI-referral segment, branded-search lift, and assisted conversions via Attribution, annotated with citation wins. This is the view that keeps GEO funded, the trendline leadership actually trusts.

Verification Checks

How to know it's really done

0/4 verified

Measurement is sound when the dashboard is honest, per-engine, and tied to revenue. Click a check to mark it verified:

06

Update Cadence & Dependencies

Keeping it alive

Weekly runs · quarterly re-entry
Weekly Automated prompt runs across every engine under identical conditions, raw answers stored.
Quarterly Use the dashboard as the loop's re-entry point; let the data pick the next cycle's work.
On prompt-set changes Version any change to the prompt set so historical trends remain comparable.
