Definition & Foundation

Citability by process, not heroics

Stage 3 turns the prompt-to-page map into pages engineered to be quoted, and it does so through process, not talent. The insight that makes this a distinct stage: citability retrofitted after drafting always reads bolted-on, and engines respond to structure, not intentions. So the discipline is front-loaded: a brief that demands citability before a word is written, drafting that leads with answers, and a QA gate that checks extraction before anything ships. Quality that depends on a heroic writer having a good day doesn't scale; quality enforced by a repeatable pipeline does.

The pipeline is: brief from the cluster → draft answer-first → inject original evidence → QA for extraction → ship wired. Each step has a hard rule: the brief names the target questions verbatim and the expert reviewer up front; every section goes question-heading → direct answer → evidence; at least one original number or first-hand observation per page; and every passage must survive being read alone, out of context. This node carries no impact score because the measurable citation leverage is attributed to Content & Citability; here the point is the operational discipline that makes that leverage repeatable instead of occasional.

Four Things to Know About Citable Production

Front-load the citability, gate the output

decide before drafting

The citability brief

The brief names the target questions verbatim, the required stats and quotes, the schema type, and the expert reviewer, up front. Citability designed into the brief beats citability retrofitted after drafting, which always reads bolted-on.

kill the throat-clearing

Answer-first drafting

Every section runs question heading → direct answer → evidence. Leading with the answer is what makes a passage liftable; see Answer-First and Passage Optimization. The preamble that delays the answer is what gets a passage skipped.

something citable-only-here

Original evidence per page

At least one number or first-hand observation per page that exists nowhere else; see Original Research. Original evidence is what makes you the primary source an engine cites rather than one of ten interchangeable rewrites.

read it out of context

The extraction QA gate

Read each passage alone, stripped of the page around it. If it only makes sense in context, it isn't extractable; rewrite it. This one test, applied before publish, is what separates engineered-to-be-quoted from hoping-to-be-quoted.

03

Myths vs Reality

Common misreadings, corrected

Myth"Hire great writers and citability takes care of itself."
RealityTalent helps, but citability that depends on heroics doesn't scale or survive turnover. The stage exists to make citability a property of the process (brief, drafting discipline, and a QA gate), so every page ships extractable regardless of who wrote it. Engines reward structure, which a pipeline can guarantee and a good day cannot.
Myth"We'll write the content well and add structure and schema at the end."
RealityCitability retrofitted after drafting reads bolted-on, because answer-first structure changes how you write a section, not just how you format it. The brief has to demand the questions, evidence, and schema before drafting starts; otherwise QA becomes a rewrite, not a check.
04

Putting It to Work

Brief it, draft it answer-first, gate it

Run every page through the same five-step pipeline so citability is guaranteed by process. The brief front-loads the requirements; the QA gate refuses anything that isn't extractable.

The citable-production playbook

1

Brief from the cluster

Build each brief from the Stage 2 cluster: target questions verbatim, the required stats and quotes, the schema type, and the named expert reviewer, all decided before drafting. The brief is where citability is designed in.

2

Draft answer-first

Structure every section as question heading → direct answer → evidence, and kill the throat-clearing. This answer-first discipline is what makes passages liftable into an AI answer.

3

Inject original evidence

Ensure at least one original number or first-hand observation per page that exists nowhere else; see Original Research. It's what makes you a primary source rather than a rewrite.

4

QA for extraction

Read each passage alone, out of context. If it needs the surrounding page to make sense, rewrite it until it stands on its own. This gate is the difference between engineered-to-be-quoted and hoping.

5

Ship wired

Publish with schema, cluster-internal links, visible dates, and an author box, then update the sitemap and fire an IndexNow ping so the engines see it immediately.
